Canopy Lodge

26 June 2012 – Afternoon at Canopy Lodge

After a last morning on the observation deck and a morning ride to El Valle (thankfully our rain for the day fell during the drive), we had a great lunch at the Lodge then went out for the afternoon on the trails near the waterfall. An Eye-ringed Flatbill was a highlight for certain, though Sepia-capped Flycatcher and Scaly-breasted Wren (aka Southern Nightingale-Wren) were ones that got away, sadly. A perched Mottled Owl was a nice surprise!

The real cap to the day, especially after missing it at Cerro Azul, was our successful evening stakeout of a White-tipped Sicklebill. The little guy (or girl) came in to roost for the evening, allowing us to watch him pump his tail and get settled for a good 20 minutes in fading light.  For a complete list of species seen, see our eBird report for Canopy Lodge
